Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about our Black Belt Program.

How do I qualify for the Black Belt Program?

Students must reach brown belt level in our regular program and receive an invitation from the master instructors. Invitations are based on technical proficiency, consistent attendance, positive attitude, leadership potential, and demonstration of black belt character traits. Not all brown belts receive invitations.

What's included in the black belt test?

The black belt test is a comprehensive 6-8 hour examination including: technical demonstration of all colored belt techniques, performance of required forms (kata) with applications (bunkai), sparring against multiple opponents, teaching demonstration, written exam on martial arts theory and history, physical fitness test, and interview with the master instructors.

Is there an age limit for black belt testing?

Minimum age for junior black belt (under 16) is 12 years old. Minimum age for adult black belt is 16. There is no maximum age - we have awarded black belts to students in their 60s and 70s. Physical requirements are adjusted appropriately for age while maintaining technical standards.

What happens after I earn my black belt?

Earning your 1st degree black belt is just the beginning. You'll continue training in our advanced black belt classes, with opportunities for weapons training, competition preparation, and instructor development. Black belts can progress through higher degrees (2nd, 3rd, 4th degree, etc.) with additional training and testing.

How much does the Black Belt Program cost?

The Black Belt Program requires additional investment beyond regular membership fees. This includes specialized training materials, private sessions with master instructors, testing fees, and black belt certification costs. Exact pricing is discussed during the invitation process. We offer payment plans to make it accessible to dedicated students.
